These are public schools that have started (or are considering starting) an Italian Dual Language Program
Since September 2018, PS242, which is a school that already has an International Baccalaureate certification, has chosen to start a pilot program with Italian as foreign language for the PreK and K classes. An Italian certified teacher meets everyday with the children and, along with two English-speaking teachers, he teaches pupils the alphabet, numbers, colors, greetings in Italian through the use of songs, books and visual materials.
In September 2019, if there is a significant number of Italian native speakers enrolled in the school, the program could become a fullfledge DL in which one day children would be instructed in all subjects in English and the following day in Italian.
PS242 is located on 122nd and Lenox Avenue in Manhattan. Click here to visit their website.
The school organizes school tours every Thursday at 9:00am, specific to the Italian program. To schedule a tour, please call (212) 678-2908 ext. 1074 or via email to the Parent Coordinator Celeste Ortega, firstname.lastname@example.org
Or you can fill out the request-for-tour form here.
