These are public elementary schools that have started an Italian component in their curriculum.
Since September 2018, PS242, which is a school that already has an International Baccalaureate certification, has chosen to start a pilot program with Italian as foreign language for the PreK and K classes. An Italian certified teacher meets everyday with the children and, along with two English-speaking teachers, he teaches pupils the alphabet, numbers, colors, greetings in Italian through the use of songs, books and visual materials.
In September 2019, the school started an Italian Dual Language program. There is an Italian teacher for the PreK and K classes and an Italian Music teacher who teaches Music to the whole school as part of the IB requirements.
PS242 is located on 122nd and Lenox Avenue in Manhattan. Click here to visit their website.
